Frequently asked questions on electric car chargers, electromobility and self-consumption
The types of charging points for electric cars is diverse and depends on the classification criteria chosen.
In terms of charging power and the time needed to top up the electric car battery, four types of charging points can be distinguished:
- Slow (between 4 and 8 hours)
- Semi-fast (between 3 and 5 hours)
- Fast (30 minutes)
- Ultra-fast (15 minutes)
There are also different types of charging points depending on the connector:
- Schuko (domestic use)
- Type 1 (not very common in Spain)
- Type 2 or Mennekes (common in our country)
- Type 3 (in disuse)
- CHAdeMO (common in cars manufactured in Japan)
- CCS connector (typical of charging stations in Europe and North America).
A third type of charging point has to do with the way the charger is installed. Thus one can find:
- Wall-mounted devices or wallbox for indoor charging and domestic use.
- Free-standing or totem terminals, designed for outdoor use and to provide charging infrastructures in companies.
The payment systems that can be used to pay for electric car charging are:
- Mobile app. Charging point operators usually offer the option of paying via their mobile app. Download the Eranovum app for Android or iOS.
- RFID. This is a card issued by the charge point operator that contains the authentication information of each customer. The Eranovum RFID device, available in key fob or card format, recognises the user when swiped and allows faster and easier recharging.
- Bank card. The option to pay by contactless debit or credit card is available on some chargers.
The combined installation of self-consumption systems and charging points for electric vehicles offers a number of advantages from both an economic and environmental perspective. These are the most important ones:
- Savings on electricity bills
- Greater energy independence
- Reduced carbon footprint
- Compliance with the SDGs
- Optimisation of the use of renewable energy
- Compliance with current regulations
- Added value to the building
- Improved company image
